Happy New Year

It’s a new year – according to the calendar. That means it’s time to look at the goals, set new ones, re-evaluate old ones, and decide what I’m going to be working on this year. I do goals, not resolutions. Why? Because I’ve fallen into the resolution trap a few too many times. You know the one where you make a nearly impossible resolution like “I’m going to run a mile every day” when you haven’t run more than three steps without losing your breath. Then on January 2nd it’s so cold the weather guys are warning everyone to stay inside and not even run to the car. Well that’s it, resolution broken already, time to get back to some serious couch potatoing and so much for that resolution.

Goals are better because they talk about the end result, not the process of getting there. I have a goal of getting in shape this year. I have it every year and it’s working, slowly. Every year I’m just a little better than I was the year before. I set goals for my writing, and even though the process may not be a smooth upward trend, eventually I get there. Why? Because a little set back doesn’t make the goal go away. It sits out there just waiting for you to get it together and get there.

So here are some of my goals for 2014

– Edit the Kayla Cycle and get at least book one published
– Publish at least 6 new stories
– Write at least three new novels (including book 2 of Daughter of the Revolution)
– Set a good habit of writing and editing

– Get in shape (as always)
– Make the gym a regular part of my week
– Eat healthier

There’s more of course, there always is. I wish you luck on your goals this year.

  1. Hola. This is Mr. Y. from Bren Road. One of my goals this year was to get my book out. And I did. I finished the ebook version of Curveballs: Sweet & Smokey Down the Barbeque Trail. Paperback should be out soon. Two more in that series are coming down the pike. I figured you would get a kick (or maybe not) out of this, and so I wanted to let you know. Well, take care and Happy New Year!
