Hopping in the New Year

We did it. We survived another year and have made it to this (rather arbitrary) day we call the first day of the new year. Really any day would have done for it, so long as we all agree that it’s the first day. So there you have it, we’ve agreed that it’s a new year. We’ve also agreed to call this year 2013. We’re off to a good start.

Tradition tells us that this is the time of year to lay out our goals – resolutions – for how we will make ourselves better in the coming year. Tradition also tells us that those goals should be something like “lose weight”, “start jogging” or “save money”. Tradition also tells us that we will have given up on these goals by the third week of January. I’m going to skip those and move straight to the goals my heart is really in.

1) I will set a writing schedule and stick to it

2) I will write, edit and send out stories to be published

3) I will cuddle my cats and husband

4) I will research how and when to self publish

5) I will read any contracts that come my way

6) I will make time to read every day

7) I will have fun

That should be enough to keep me going for a whole year. With any luck by this time next year I’ll have advanced my career to the next level. How about you? What are you really going to do this year and what do you dream?

Now for the fun stuff. Prizes.

Each comment (with your email in the body of the comment – altered so bots can’t read it) will be entered into two drawings. First locally: One lucky commenter will receive a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble. Second every comment here and on all the other blogs participating in the blog hop will be entered for these fabulous prizes:

1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet

2nd Grand Prize: A $300 Amazon or B&N Gift Card

3rd Grand Prize: A Swag Pack that contains paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more!

  4. Hmm.. well 2012 wasn’t a great year to be honest. 2013 *will* be better 🙂 I’m going to finish school, find a job, work out with the spiffy gym membership… and have fun with guest reviewing over at ParanormalHaven 🙂

  13. It is great that you set some goals for yourself, I think everyone needs to set goals for themselves because those who dont never improve their lives, they stay dull and boring. Also I think if you are gonna set goals you should make sure it is a learning experience to improve your wisdom over the years. At least that is my main goal is to become wiser so I can be a prime example for my children and grandchildren.

    Happy New Year!

  15. I’m going to go camping more often and read as often as I can. I’ve set a goal of at least 70 books, but if I don’t reach that, it’s fine. Quality over quantity, sometimes.

  30. My New Years goal is to get out of these two casts so I can walk down the aisle on my wedding day (in April) without the aid of a wheelchair. I fell on the ice on Wed Jan 9th and broke both of my ankles. So not the great start to the New Years that I wanted.

    Thanks for participating!
