It’s time once again for Author to Author. Each month I sit down with an indie author and try find out what makes them tick.
It’s time once again to introduce you to another fabulous Author. I’ve recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Sue Seabury. While she can’t pull a VW bus with her eyelids or play The Star Spangled Banner on a nose flute, she does have the amazing talent of putting words in order to make fun stories. I give you: Sue Seabury:
Let’s take a moment to pause, step back and think about what it is we are doing. We’re writing stories. Stories that have messages. Whether we intend them or not, stories always have messages. The question is, then, are we writing the kind of messages that we want our readers to see?
Everything is a writing prompt. I have to remind myself of that when real life gets to be too frustrating. It’s all fodder for the stories.
It’s getting to be too common these days for the news to erupt with the latest officer involved shooting. Two days in a row this week. Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Tuesday, July 5th and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota on Wednesday July 6th. Then, because things weren’t bad enough, Micah Xavier decided to use the deaths of Sterling and Castile as an excuse to shoot and kill cops in Dallas, Texas.
There are times in my writing life when the emotion at the top of the pile is frustration. I just can’t find the right word and it’s the sixth time that’s happened this session. A beta reader didn’t get back to me when I expected them to. I just have no clue what to write next. The other kids won’t play with me – well the adult version.
